WHERE WE ARE

The Moto Club Iglesias is located in Iglesias Via Siracusa snc, tel. +39 0781-32444 office – fax +39 0781 40980

Iglesias is a town with 30,000 inhabitants on the south west coast of Sardinia, at 10 km from the sea. Main distances: 54 km from Cagliari, 50 Km from Elmas-Cagliari Airport, 220 km from Porto Torres, 250 km from Olbia .
The town lies at the foot of the Marganai massif (peak 900 m), which together with the mountains Linasia creates one of the green lungs of Sardinia. Iglesias is oriented towards the planes, which stretches towards Cagliari; the other side stretches towards the sea among beautiful hills covered by mediterranean maquis while the Marganai part is covered with rocks and woods.
The peculiarities of the town are the “Four M”: Mines, Sea (Mare in Italian), Mountains and Middle Age. The city owes its origins to the mines already exploited by ancient Romans till the middle age times, still visible on the old part of the town. The mines have been closed for economical reasons in the ’90s and the town is now focused on tourism, services and trade.
Near Iglesias the metallurgical activities are still active in the industrial area of Portovesme (aluminium - zinc).
The sea is 11 km far, Funtanamare Beach and many other beautiful sand beaches are at your disposition. Sea temperature on April is near 16 °C.
Wild cliffs which are unspoilt and free of facilities, our mountains are yet not exploited, on the Marganai Mountains there is a regional park, where you can find cork and oak trees. The wild boar rules unless the hunting season is opened.
The middle age is one of the peculiarities of Iglesias as touristic attractions: the revaluation of historic town centre and the presence of many ancient churches (Iglesias= is cresias = the churches in Spanish languages) give the chance to visit this sites and to organize three summer events: The Candelieri parade, Middle-Age parade and the Crossbow shooting competition.

WHO WE ARE

The Moto Club Iglesias was founded on 1974, March 13th and since then with no interruption has developed activities of Enduro Motocross Tourism, Gimkana, Supermotard, Endurbiker, social life and Trial.
The president is Carlo Piccardi, in charge since 1975 with no interruptions. The board is made up of 9 people but whoever wants to participate usually joins the board’s meetings, which are often very crowded.
The main activity is the Enduro, both because it was our first activity and because the mountains around Iglesias help us in this sport. We are however open to whatsoever discipline our members want to practice.
Our “Moto Dispersion” yearly meeting is really very appreciated because very aggregating, and bikers are coming from all Sardinia. We leave on Saturday afternoon, using “all-terrain” motorbikes, we stay and have dinner in the mountains (possibly not in hotel) and come back home the day after.
During these last years the sports results have not been as good as they were in the 80s, 90s and 2000, but our main source of satisfaction is the presence of some young members who constitute the second generation of founder members (Binetti, Cubadda) and other promising young people.
One of the aspects which characterizes us is the collective Sunday trip for the mountains: “elderly” and young facing the extraordinary difficulties of our territor: sand, rock, hill, wood, uphill and downhill.
The Moto Club Iglesias is considered the leader group of Enduro in Sardinia.
We are organizing since 2004, the national Enduro race, after 30 years of experience of Regional Championships races.

We already organized:

. On Feb 2004 first race of Italian Championship “Assoluti d’Italia” (two days race)
. On March 2005 first race major Italian Championship (one day race)
. On April 2006 second race European Championship (two day race)

We are cooperating from the early beginnings with all motorbike events in Sardinia, like World TT Raid, Rally of Sardinia, Assoluti d’Italia Enduro, ensuring all main technical positions (Race Director, Passage Controls, radio links, Medical Assistance etc) .

Two of our members are licensed as International Race Directors by FIM. One of our members is licensed as Chief Medical Officier (CMO) by FIM.

Mini ENDURO

In April 2006, for the European Enduro Championship organized by Moto Club Iglesias, for the first time in Sardinia arrives SAE (Scuola Avviamento Enduro – Enduro Starting School). The city of Iglesias, with 31 kids for 8 to 15 years, welcomes them with open arms, showing passion and enthusiasm. Since then, together with Moto Club Iglesias, the minienduro school started to function, thanks to some parents who committed themselves to teach the youngest to ride their bikes and to create a united group not only on the track. From the commitment of the parents, helped by the officials of Moto Club Iglesias, the 1st Sardinian Minienduro Trophy dwelled in 2007. Until now, the development of minienduro in Sardinia took place exponentially, involving many moto clubs. Besides Moto Club Iglesias, the promoter of this initiative, following moto clubs took part (in chronological order): Moto Club Dorgali, Moto Club Gonnesa, Moto Club Sinnai, Moto Club Villacidro, Moto Club Sorso, Moto Club Il Centauro and il Moto Club Xtream. The racing movemet is also significant, having in 2009 a total of 7 races for the Sardinian Minienduro Trophy (against 5 races of the “big” riders). The united actions of the parents from various motoclubs for pushing forward this movement in Sardinia, made it possible, only after three years of existence, to be appointed for the organization of a race of the Italian National Minienduro Championship, on the 4th of October 2009.
The activity of the enduro school continues constantly this year too, and, with the occasion of the 3rd round of the WEC, an the 19th of April there will be held a first level minineduro starting course (SAE) for all the boys and girls between 8 and 15 years wh want to learn the basics of Enduro. We don't know how many of these youngsters will be tomorrow's champions but for sure we will show to a lot of these what Enduro is all about.
